"I have enjoyed each and every one of the Teleconferences so much that I am now trying to schedule patients around them. I feel that the TCME is extremely valuable and am planning to join as a member this week."
-Danielle Paciera, LDN, RD, Tulane University

From tele-conference participant (The call) "it was great! I appreciated how you modeled these skills for us as you facilitated the group! I also loved hearing the experiences of others and learning about different resources. " Cathy C

"The entire concept of 'curiosity' was new to me with respect to nutrition counseling. It seemed like a very unlikely word to include. I came to understand, however, how it can increase our awareness of our/client's behaviors when taking a more curious stance (I wonder how much food It will take to fill me up/satisfy me?) rather than a more judgmental, negative stance such as "I'm not supposed to eat more than this for lunch, but I seem extra hungry today!". Engaging The Sacred: Helping to integrate wisdom into the meal
This NEW area was created to help integrate wisdom into the meal. Every tradition has elements of wisdom from which we can benefit. The material included here comes from many sources that offer different lenses through which to experience and taste mindfulness at mealtime. The purpose here is not to promote any belief system, but to deepen the journey toward understanding the Principles of Mindful Eating that are the core of TCME’s mission. May you enjoy the journey.

In this section, TCME is attempting to create meta-categories that can focus on some concrete aspects of mindful eating.  The initial areas of focus include these four categories:

  1. Rituals surrounding food and eating
  2. Connectedness with individuals at the meal
  3. Community by which food is gathered and shared
  4. Blessings surrounding food and eating

These are sorted without regard to specific faiths or belief systems. TCME's hope is to encourage individuals to take the information and accept the overall wisdom that is offered.

TCME has permission from Parallax Press to present the teaching of Buddhist monk and Noble Peace Prize author, Thich Nhat Hahn's material on Mindful Eating. A pdf text only version of this resource is posted below.  Verses for Eating Mindfully, by Thich Nhat Hanh

The following is an article by TCME president Jean Kristeller, PhD regarding wisdom and mindful eating.
